What’s so great about urban living is ya can wheel right out of the apartment and be right in the middle of downtown, literally in minutes…I love urban living.
Monday night rides out of Blue Star are so much fun. I get to ride with a group of folks from all ages, riding styles and riding levels. Wheels down is at 7p sharp and anywhere from 25 to 75 cyclists will be on the Mission Trail ride. It’s a fast ride that has whittled down to three stops to wait for all riders to reconvene, but my favorite part of the Monday rides is when we get to Padre Drive on the return.
On our way back to Blue Star we hit Padre Drive for the sprint. I love it because we go extra fast! And usually, I’ve ridden pretty hard that I’m not sure if I have it in me for the sprint. But somehow I manage to shake off thoughts of exhaustion and hit it. It’s a race to the third and final stop before we head on back to Blue Star.
What I find doubly exciting is riding along not only with my fellow roadies, but along with the fixies, the commuters, the cruisers and the mountain bike riders. For the time we ride together, we are one. And I’m happy to say, many are my family of friends. We take turns at leading, drafting and challenging each other. And a little competition doesn’t hurt to give you that extra desire to punch it harder. I admire each rider who takes the time to get out and share the same passion – we do love our bikes and we do love riding and that’s something none of us needs to talk about cause the riding and our camaraderie says it all.
